Hips hurt

Hard to tell what's the issue without seeing your technique.
Perhaps you should get someone experienced in your area/gym to check out your technique?
 
could be your form/technique

however most likely it is poor hip mobility. when/if you continue pounding away you will open yourself up to hip problems

go do bikram yoga for the next 1-2 months EOD, get your mobility and flexibility back, then you can go back to weight training. it is like doing maintanence on your car
 
When you say your hips hurt, do you mean the actual joints and bones, or are you referring to the muscles and tendons connecting there?
