Taking supplements break fast ?

Is the fast considered broken if I ingest supplements ? How about coffee?

Depends on supplements. Black coffee is fine.

a water fast is just water. not sure why this seems to be complicated.

coffee is a beverage that has nutrients, hence you are breaking a fast when you drink it.. if you want to take full advantage of the benefits of fasting including autophagy and gut repair you absolutely have no business drinking coffee or tea in a fast. however if you are so addicted and weak minded that you MUST drink it you will still get great benefits, but you will be leaving a lot on the table

I would much rather you take electrolytes and at best a couple drops of lemon in your water. that is the most aggressive i would go. but again JUST WATER is going to be your best bet because good quality water already has electrolytes (if you are using filtered water it will be stripped)

as far as other supplements, you absolutely should cease all supplements during a fast to get the full benefits. the biggest scam out there are these guys peddling BCAA's during a fast which is a huge no-no. you might as well just quit your fast if you are consuming those.

Generally speaking in a normal fast that is fine. They generally aren't providing any caloric value.

As long as you arent taking anything that contains calories it's fine...assuming you are following IF. Coffee is fine as long as its black. Dont add cream or sugar
