Lately I've been seeing lots of supposed "sugar-free" products (e.g. protein cookies, sugar-free syrup) with varying amounts of "sugar alcohols" in them. What is this stuff? Here I've been thinking that I've been successfully avoiding extra sugar in my diet, but I've actually been inadvertantly injesting this stuff! How does it compare to the regular sugar you'd see on labels? How does it affect insulin release? Should I be trying to avoid it too? Can anyone shed some light on this for me? Thanks.
