pharmaceutical grade sugar vs. sugar

What is the difference between regular granulated sugar (which you buy in the supermarket) and the pharmaceutical grade sugar found in a lot of creatine drinks like MESO-TECH. It has 75 grams of sugar. But I was told that it was okay since it was pharmaceutical grade sugar. Others say stay away from sugar completely.
