hydrogenated starch hydrolysate

Does anyone know what this stuff is?

I see it listed as the first ingrediant on all the new Sugar Free candy. I found Baskin Robbins SF hard candy, SF creme savers, Go Lightly SF chews , Lifesavers Toffes SF, and alot more.

I have done some research but havent really found anything conclusive about what it is, how bad/good it is for your body.

I think anything hydrogenated would be detrimental to a diet whether its Sugar Free or not, whats the deal?

I am pretty sure hydrogenation just mean they add hydrogen to give it thickness. this what stabilizes and hardens oils. Though I think that it is probably not excessively good for you. I try to avoid things that say Hydrogenated. I know that hydrogenated oils are not good for you, I cant really say as far as that goes.

someone else?
