fats and carbs in same meal?

what is the deal with combining fats and carbs in a meal and gaining weight? my personal trainer said that you should never eat them together because it will cause you to gain fat. example he said the pre workout meal i had of bananas and nuts was no good. do you guys agree with this or not?

natural unrefined fats actually will not cause fat gain at all. they have little to no effect on insulin levels.

the problem with people like your personal trainer is they think a carb is a carb and a fat is a fat. they aren't. just lumping every food as part of a macro is ridiculous. nutrition 101

This would apply if you were eating pizza before training. If you are eating something like fruit and nuts, there is no issue there.

There is some validity to his statement but it's not related to the meal as much as the daily macros. You can have higher carbs or higher fats. Higher carbs and higher fats is a recipe for fat gain. And your body doesn't give a shot where it comes from. You can get just as fat on "clean" foods
