dried fruits vs nuts

dried fruit and nuts are very calorie dense

if you really want to lose weight neither is a good choice. how about SKIPPING dinner instead. that makes more sense if you really want to finish your day in a deficit. people are always scared to NOT EAT because they think if they skip meals their muscles will evaporate or their metabolism will get hurt. not true on either count

Neither would be a good option. Nuts and dried fruit are very calorie dense. They are a health food, absolutely, but very very calorie dense. You can easily eat 1000 calories of nuts/dried fruit if you eat them mindlessly.

Look at a bag of your typical trail mix (which is basically dried fruit and nuts). It will contain around 500 calories per cup.

High volume low calorie foods like broccoli, carrot sticks, mushrooms, cucumber etc. would be a much better option. You can eat a massive tray of them and it will only contain around 100 calories.

If you are trying to loose weight, the best dinner you could consume would be 6-8oz of a lean protein + a massive platter of fresh cut vegetables.

Going to bed hungry is actually a good thing when cutting. If you want a light dinner substitute then maybe just have a protein shake.

Though both have their own set of health benefits, you need to eat them in moderation.

* Nuts are high in calories so one needs to limit their intake. Besides proteins, vitamins, minerals and healthy fats, they also have saturated fats

* Dry fruits have sugar in high concentrations compared to the fresh ones. They are beneficial to anemics, athletes, etc. Weight watchers, diabetics with very high sugar levels, heart patients, those with gallstones, high BP and triglycerides, severe water retention, should restrict their intake.
