this is an opportunity for us to contribute diet truths to each other

just a question or two with an accompanied answer is what would be helpful

here is an example

Q= what is one of the only sugars that bypasses cell membranes and is converted to energy with absolutly no insulin response what so ever (relative to other carbs)

A= FRUCTOSE:)
 
Q= How is muscle tissue generally metabolised when muscle is lost on a diet?

A= After amino acids leave lean tissue cells via cortisol, the liver converts the aminos to glucose in a process called gluconeogenesis. That is why carbohydrate is muscle/protein sparing.

Q= What is the underlying non-hormonal metabolic cause of muscle loss on a diet?

A= As a diet progresses, fat is mobilized less easily and serum/blood fat levels decrease, causing the body to utilize a higher percentage of glucose for energy. As indicated in the above post, this will lead to muscle loss.
 
Q= What hormone decreases when bodyfat levels decrease and there is a negative energy balance (caloric deficit)

A= Leptin. This hormone is also know as the anti-famine hormone and a certain level of leptin expression must occur for normal metabolic activity (such as testosterone production, normal/low levels of cortisol) to occur.
 
Q= Generally, what percent of ingested carbohydrate, protein and fat can be converted by the liver to glucose (via gluconeogenesis)?

A= 100% of carbohydrate, 58% of protein and 10% of fat (from glycerol).
 
Q= What hormones most directly regulate metabolic rate?

A= T3 and T4, shorthand names for two important thyroid hormones.
 
Q= What change related to T3 and T4 is generally the cause of a reduced metabolic rate when there is a caloric deficit?

A= Less T4 is converted to T3, the most metabolically active of these two hormones.
 
For something that is very simple, I find that not to many of the clients I train know how many cals are in pro/cabs/fats. So the question is how many kcals are in pro/cabs/fats?

Answer: 1 gram protein = 4 kcals
1 gram carb= 4 kcals
1 gram fat= 9 kcals
