bulking w/o milk and eggs is not bulking!!!

I've been bulk eating for 2 weeks now, with heavy emphasis on milk, eggs, chicken, sweet potatoes, and brown rice. I make 2 protein shakes per day to get around my class/work schedule. each shake is about 800-850 cals, depending on the fruits I add to it.

I've gained 10 lbs in 2 weeks with no visible fat gain around my midsection. It's looking like the vast majority of those 10 lbs is solid. I'm not afraid to drink plenty of milk.

soy milk is good for nothing. Milk is great for bulking if you want to get fat and bloated. I'm only half serious, but I don't like the sugar or the lactose, doesn't work for me one bit. I'll have milk occasionally on a carb up day but that is about it. There's not really a place for it in either my bulking, cutting, or maintenance diets.

Milk will not make you fat. It will prevent you from losing fat due to its high insulin response, but milk is slow digesting and your bloodstream will not overload with the sugars in milk. In fact, milk is a great bulking choice because of its insulin response and slow digestion. The insulin will push protein into muscle cells and since lactose digests slowly your bloodstream will not be overloaded with sugar hence little to no fat storage. If you drink milk with a lot of bad fats or other simple carbs, then it's a different story..

I've been drinking 2% so far but I could easily go with whole milk. There's only a 20 cal difference per 8 oz which isn't much more so it's not really worth it. I can't drink 1% or fat free you might as well drink water with a splash of milk thrown in that's what it tastes like.

i drink whole milk. i think its better. some feal that way about skim.

+1, unless you need to go low fat like on a refeed, it's best to trust mother nature. The fat is in there for a reason. Some we know, some we don't. Most obviously vitamin d is fat soluble.

Also soy milk is really good for you ... if you are post menopausal. It's almost as effective as estrogen replacement therapy.

It's best to stick to the thick red label.

I will post this once more in this thread.....

"Soy milk is essentially Coffee-Mate laced with estrogen, and is best left to vegans and other socialist vegetarian types that can't bring themselves to eat the completely natural-for-humans flesh of our friends the Animals but who have no trouble with slaughtering trillions of our other friends the Plants and processing -- in gigantic factories run by multinational corporations with shareholders that eat meat themselves -- very selectively chosen components of their poor little bodies into gooey shit that humans have never had an opportunity to adapt to digesting. Why, eating such material, with its high levels of isoflavones, touted by gynecologists as tantamount to Estrogen Replacement Therapy (ERT), will make you grow boobs, and this will screw up the clean lines of this fine young man's Under Armor. I recommend against it."

I prefer drinking skim milk, but I can certainly see the argument for drinking whole milk. For me, milk elicits a high insulin response, and generally when insulin is present you want to limit fat as much as possible. That's why I drink skim milk. I'm no expert on milk, though.

i wont knock rippetoe but i will say like a lot of his other statements they are blown a little out of perportio. but they all carry truth. in this case i would have to say that comparing soy milk to ert would be a stretch. i dont drink soy milk and never will but i do inject estriodol during every cycle and i dont grow boobs. what i do get from it is higher test levels and better gains.
i dont get why people over the years have stopped using estro but i bet that even with the ai's we have now that wherent available then the people with gyno problems where fewer.
