rice and sweet potatoes are a big part of the Okinawa diet and they are a blue zone

just make sure you prep correctly. and don't cook your sweet potatotoes in veggie oil frying them like some people do. then you turn a healthy thing into unhealthy

i never heard of anyone getting fat on rice and sweet potatoes.

Definitely brown rice over potatoes. As stevesmi said though, sweet potatoes are a fantastic option.

I always prefer to eat brown rice, unpolished. This is more useful than another side dish. But when rice bothers, I can eat potatoes, but only after training, there are a lot of carbohydrates. Good luck!
