50-30-20 Diet For MAXIMUM Fat-Loss

From what I understand a 50% protein, 30% carb, 20% fat diet can work extreme wonders for fat loss..

For me thats around 300g protein, 200g carbs, and around 50-60g fat.

:D:D

Sounds good. It's pretty hard to get that much protein though. I have a friend who is HUGE (6'2, 250, full 4 pack) and doesn't juice at all. He swears by taking in 30g of protein a day. Go figure. But I contribute this to him being a genetic freak of nature :)

I don't know of any diet or p/c/f ratio that works "extreme wonders." I've been on a 50-25-25 diet for a few months now. Have the pounds MELTED off? Has it been a diet miracle? Hell no! But is it working? Yes! Slowly but surely, which is the best you can expect from any diet.

There is only one universal truth when it comes do dieting, and that is DIETING SUCKS....PERIOD!!! We live in a country of rich, wonderful, flavorful food. Not only is it readily available and very inexpensive, it's thrown in our face constantly through advertising. And we who are among the shrinking number of Americans who care about their health, are forced to deal with it.

I've been cutting for ten weeks now! I'm trimmer than I've been in a very long time, if ever. BUT, I'm hungry all the damn time, I've forgotten what good food tastes like, and I dont think I could even bench a fucking broomstick with a gun to my head!!!

Ahhhhhh, uh, sorry. Got a little carried away there. What was the question?

Doofy,

50-30-30 refers to percentages of CALORIES, not bodyweight. First, you need to figure out how many calories you want to be eating, depending on your goals--loose, gain, or maintain weight.
I know you are trying to cut up--most people would tell you to multiply your weight by 10-12, but I think it is better to look at what you are eating now (if you are maintaining weight), and subtract 300-500 cals from that, or subtract 600-1000 cals if you are gaining.

For simplicity, lets say you figure you need to eat about 2000 cals a day to cut, and want to try this 50-30-20 diet.

2000 x .50 = 1000 cals of protein
There are 4 cals/gram of protein, so you need 1000/4 = 250 grams of protein per day.

2000 x .30 = 600 cals of carbohydrate
There are also 4 cals/gram of carbohydrate, so you need 600/4=150 grams of carbs per day.

2000 x .20 = 400 cals of fat.
There are 9 cals/gram of fat, so you need 400/9= 44.44 grams of fat per day.

Beautifully said my friend.

Yo Perfect truth to gymtime. That is the essence of all any of ya need to know about dieting :) Bumpo

I'm so confused......

I have spent MOST of my life at 150-160 lbs (I'm a 5'4" female, so that equals FAT). I got down to about 135-140 lbs and about a month ago I decided to get serious and build serious muscle and get cut-up/lean....

SO - after a lot of guidance from my pals over at the womens forum, I constructed a clean diet...I eat every 3 hours, mostly boiled chicken, tuna, egg whites, oatmeal, steamed veggies, and brown rice.

I DO NOT count calories OR weigh/measure food. Let alone orchestrate eating a certain % of this, that, and the other...

In 4 weeks, with that diet and LESS CARDIO - my body fat came in at 13% on Wednesday.

I don't see why everyone is exerting so much energy calculating things....especially men.

Am I some sort of freak, or what?!
