    what do I need for a wireless network for home? there is one internet connection(cable), and five computers. what do I need, and how much will it cost?

    I'd recommend the Linksys BEFW11S4 Wireless 4-Port Cable/DSL Router (802.11b) - they have it as Amazon for $140.
    then you would need the wireless cards for whatever machines that you want to be wireless, and the rest can go into the 4por t switch.

    I have the wireless and switch in two different boxes b/c the above didn't exist when I was doing it.
    the above it more cost effective and it works well.

    how much would the wireless cards be pwe computer? and what is the average data transfer rate on these? not as much as a regular LAN, but not noticable, correct?
