Will this end out dependency on fossil fuels???

i'm seeing lots of stories about people using cooking oil for fuel for pennies.

I've yet to see any process involving cracking water that was sufficiently efficient to be a fossil-fuel replacement. It takes more energy to split the molecule than you can regain by burning the products. It can, however, be a good way to augment your fuel and utilize power from the car that would be otherwise be wasted.

Modern nuclear plants can take energy wasted and use it to crack water. Pebble bed & CanDU reactors can be used to not only make grid electricity, but crack water into hydrogen and oxygen to power a fuel cell economy.

Tsinghua's program for Nuclear and New Energy technology also plans in 2006 to begin developing a system to use the high temperature gas of a pebble bed reactor to crack steam to produce hydrogen. The hydrogen could serve as fuel for vehicles, reducing China's dependence on imported oil

I think alot of energy in internal combustion engines is wasted as heat. If we can find a way to use that wasted heat to crack water it'll increase gas mileage.
