And what a pain to find a quality case that handles 500 gb and sata II.

I didn't know about the storage methodology. But I'm pretty sure that microfiche data transfer rate < 3 gb/second.

and... what are you using for backup? When the day comes that one drive part is on the wrong side of the bell curve at 7200RPM, filling your case with magnetic confetti?

I used to patronise Hitachi but now I just ridicule them. I prefer Western Digital drives these days and have for a few years after three IBM/Hitachi drives let me down.

Do you have only one of those 500G drives? I've had more than a TB for ages, although 240 of it sits in an external case to ease moving data between machines when needed.
