I like my black metal a little more brutal and polished.

It's by far my least favorite, I'd take death/doom/thrash/grind and even power metal over it.

No way, Neurosis fucken rocks. Get stuff off the Souls At Zero album...though in this day in age it might sound a little dated. They are very much out of the SF Hardcore/grindcore scene.

If you want some good Doom metal I suggest
Morgion - Solinari
Morgion - Among Majestic Ruin (for more stoner rock)
Evoken - Embrace the Emptiness (spatial doom/death)
Shape of Despair - Angels of Distress (carefull, you might kill yourself)
Candlemass - always classic
Isis - for some crazy experimental noise
Katatonia - decent stuff
October Tide - decent stuff

I am mainly into deathmetal and thrash...but I really only listen to Carcass anymore.

ive played a few shows with the guys from isis, theyre great. their first 2 albums were particularly brilliant, mosquito control and red sea. after those, they changed to a softer atmospheric sound.. still good shit but check out those first two if you havent already.

i went through a neurosis phase for a while but their sound doesnt do it for me anymore.. still a lot of talent.
