You rent a cage at a bank, easy to do.

I would buy silver if I was you. More stable price than gold and smaller dollar amounts to easier to avoid taxes on it. Sell a 10 oz bar of gold and the IRS will want their cut of the profits. Silver is easier to get rid of $5K at a time or so.
