tums aren't good if the problem is persistent....they bring the acid level way down quickly by neutralizing it rather than suppressing it's formation, so you get a 'rebound' of even more acid...therefore more heartburn. Go with pepcidAC instead.

dude Prevacid is the shit, it reduces the amount of acid that the body produces. I had to go to the Doc because I had that even if I just drank water.
