???BY Accident or On Accident? Which do you say??

okay I have noticed that some people say "on accident" instead of "by accident", and I think that is really odd. I don't get it. I would say "I fell in the pool by accident." not "I punched you in the face on accident"

I don't get it. I was wondering who says what. Do people in different areas say it different ways? and which is the right way? Help me por-favor
