Yep recovery is here! Gotta pay for those bank bailouts somehow! This is the change we need:

United States Postal Service Station Branches Identified For Full Study (washingtonpost.com)

The United State Postal Service selected 677 branches post offices nationwide for either closure or consolation, the Washington Post reported.

Thirty-eight of those locations are in Southern California. The complete list was posted on washingtonpost.com.

"The writing is on the wall and the postal service obviously has to make some tough decisions if it wants to weather this storm," said Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-D.C.).

This was being talked about before Bush was out of office. USPS is being put out of work by competitors and email :whatever: Tough noogies.

You know what their pay and bene's are? I have a friend whose been in the PO for about 15 years. She was crying the blues to me about having to pay (gasp) a whole $50 copay for the MRI she just got. She doesn't pay a dime towards her health insurance and virtually nil for copays. Meanwhile, my husbands prescriptions cost over $150 every month (after the insurance copay) PLUS he pays $40 a week for his health insurance.

I just have a hard time working any sympathy up for any of them. I feel pretty much the same way toward most civil servants that other people do towards the auto workers, sorry.

Yeah but Wall st bankers who make billions and run your economy into the ground - deserve your money instead right? Screw the post office workers. Same with Auto company and AIG execs.

Execs = Trillions. Workers = Nothing. Sweet.

Doctors, Post Office workers, civil servants - is there anyone in society you DO like? Do you hate life?

Actually I like people, it's society I have a problem with. Or more accurately, capitalism. I think it's a fucked up system. I think certain things should be basic rights for any member of society (food, potable water, health care, education, protection, for example), and have no problem paying higher taxes for those things, seriously. I have absolutely NO problems with paying more taxes than I do if that makes our society, as a whole, healthier, happier, more productive. In short, don't think food, water, shelter and healthcare should be priveleges.

And I completely confess that while I think capitalism is a mess, I have no idea for a viable alternative. In short, I don't think humanity is emotionally and spiritually evolved enough for any other system at this point in time.

As for the bail out money ... I virtually failed high school economics? When people who have no dogs in the fight and are way smart about economics are saying if something isn't done the world economy is going to turn turtle, I believe them. Sue me for being naive :whatever:

I'm a little person living a little life. I don't have the answers to the world's problems, if I did, I'd be making a helluva lot more money than I do now.

As for the post office, too bad, so sad. Guess what, I'm in a field that's being eliminated by voice recognition software and outsourcing to foreign countries. Shit happens. Ever work a civil service job? We're not talking brain surgery, here, but our tax dollars make sure they're paid better than, and receive better benefits than a good 50% of society.

Maybe I'd have more sympathy if I wasn't convinced my mailman is roughly as intelligent as Forrest Gump without half the good judgement.

Well congrats you're living in a time when that post office worker you hate is being laid off to make more money to send to wall st bankers who play let's gamble with your mortgage. However you don't see these people, they do'nt live on your street and they'll never allow you to enter their homes. But they get all your money and laugh as you and other media brain-washed middle class americans blame illegals, overpaid servants, terrorists, welfare moms, etc. for the economy. Yet have no idea what TARP stands for.

Capitalism is slowly dying - the engine of wealth is slowly leaving the country because capital dollars flow where it has the highest return. And it sure isn't here (would YOU invest an in american automaker?).

Let's put it this way: That post office worker costs you 25c of your taxes. That AIG, Citigroup, GM exec costs you half your bank account. Who is getting the bigger laugh here?

Everytime you and others point the fingers at other middle class americans, the elitists who you'll never meet in life - get the last laugh. This is a system you'll *never* hera about in school or on tv. :) Case in poitn, how many americans heard about this?:

"NEW YORK, July 30 (Reuters) - The U.S. government is expected to issue more new debt in the third quarter from second quarter to make up for a cash shortfall and a burgeoning deficit, a financial industry group said on Thursday."

The Treasury Department is expect to auction $446 billion in new debt in the third quarter, up from the net $343 billion sold in the second quarter, the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association said.

HINT: That $446 BILLION is not going to your mailman but you and others will have to pay for it!

I have always had the post offices back. I get sick of people bitching about stamps going up. I mean you can still send a friggin letter anywhere in the US for under a dollar. Now to me thats a deal!!!
I hate the way this country is ran at times. Its no different than laying off teachers when the superintendant makes enough in one year to employ four teachers,.

how many jobs is that lost?? i know they will just let them re bid on a job within, and they can always offer early retirement, but the last time the po did that, they had to stop it and hire a whole lot of new people.. with no knowledge or experience..

at least it was change..

Poor people don't use ups and fedex. Guess which segment of society is impacted by these decisons and dealing with 15 minute waits at their post offices.
