What are PPAR's?

PPAR's or peroxisome proliferator activated receptors, are nuclear receptors that play major roles in lipid metabolism, cellular energy balance, glucose metabolism. Basically they are small complexes that have major impact on numerous systems. Every pharmaceutical company is working to develp PPAR based drugs, since they have huge implications with respect to obesity, liver disease, hypertension, cholesterol and diabetes.

How does Sesamin increase fat loss?

Activation of PPAR-alpha, in this case strongly by sesamin/episesamin, increase mitochondrial and peroxisome activity, basically increasing fatty acid metabolism significantly. Additionally, Sesamin increases the expression of the mitochondrial enzyme carnitine palmitoyl transferase. Which is the enyme that shuttles fatty acids to the mitochondria, making more fatty acids available for use as energy. To top it off Sesamins activation of PPAR-alpha increases the production of uncoupling proteins. Uncoupling proteins are kind of like DNP that your body makes. The amount of UCP's that you produce is one of the main factors in what your basal metabolism is. So basically Sesamin and episesamin shift your metabolism considerably more in favor of utilizing fat, instead of storing it.

each capsule contains 420mg of sesamin/episesamin

What will Sesamax do for my liver?

Sesamin and episesamin have been shown to inhibit fatty vacuole formation in the liver due to alcohol exposure. They do this by increasing hepatic fatty acid oxidation as well as by helping to efficiently metabolise alcohol.
Sesamin and episesamin have been shown to raise aldehyde dehydrogenase levels by more than 3 fold. When alcohol is consumed, it enters cells and is broken down into a toxic compound known as acetaldehyde. An enzyme called aldehyde dehydrogenase 2 (ALDH2) converts the acetaldehyde into acetic acid, which is non-toxic and can be readily used by your body to provide energy. Basically its helps your body to "safely" metabolize alcohol.
