    My coach said it was good idea to replace breakfast with a protein shake in the morning. Is this actually a good idea or is eating whole foods probably better?

    No. A small glass WITH breakfast would be better. Unless you need to lose weight - is that why your coach suggested it?

    my guess is your coach is trying to sell you protein powder

    I am personally more of a whole food guy myself. I would have egg whites for breakfast.

    Protein powders have their place but whole foods are always better.
