Flax seed vs flax seed oil

I wonder if there is any reason to spend so much on flax seed oil when regular flax seed is so cheap?
I just use a coffee grinder to break them up.
They taste great in protein shakes.
Is there really a big difference?

I think you'd need ALOT of seeds to equate to same amount of EFA you're going to get in a tablespoon of oil.

I think flaxseeds themselves have a much lower absorption rate, but that's just from experience. You can try the ground up flax but I think the oil is much more efficient and digesteble.

why not take both

flax seed oil for its omega 3s
and the seeds for EFAs plus fiber
