ok this may sound like a dumb question for some of you hardcore dieters, but I noticed that the cals and fat are about the same for the two oils. So instead of a tablespoon of flaxseed in the morning, why not a tablespoon of olive oil?

Flaxseed oil got more polyunsaturated fat than olive oil.

IF you compare the 2 charts you will find that flaxseed oil has got omega 3s ,6s, and 9s.

Olive oil only 6s and 9s.
Olive oil has got only vitamin E; flaxseed oil has got vitamin E and A. In terms of cooking you should never heat flaxseed oil as it loses all its natural characteristic ; on the other hadn olive oil will be OK under heat ..

For health benefits Flaxseed oil has been proven effective in preventing heart disease and cancer!!

Overall is a better choice..I have at least one tbs in the evening.

you need both

flax seed oil for the omega 3s (poly unsaturated fatty acids)
and
olive oil for the mono unsaturated fatty acids

they have different properties but they can't replace each other

UDO's choice is a good deal
