Ala

Fonz said:

Nope. ALA has ZERO effect on blood insulin levels.
It does NOT degrade insulin at all, it just increases
blood glucose up-take and clearance.

It does this by increasing the number of glut-4 transporters
on the out-side of the cell, therefore increasing the cells ability
to soak up glucose.

This is how it works....

Post-Wo meal:

Take your usual High-GI carbs + protein,
then lets see what happens with ALA and w/o
ALA.

W/o ALA, your food intake will create an insulin surge from the
pancreas and this surge will shuttle the nutrients you have just
ingested into your cells.

BUT, these would be BOTH your FAT and MUSCLE cells.

W/ALA, your food intake will create an insulin surge from the
pancreas and this surge will shuttle the nutrients you have just
ingested into your cells.

However, ALA has MARKEDLY increased your muscle-cells
Glut-4 content therfore it has a greater ability to soak up
glucose.

So what happens, MORE of the nutrients are diverted to your
muscle cells INSTEAD of your fat cells, yet INSULIN LEVELS
REMAIN UN-CHANGED!!!

What this means is that you have created a nutrient-partitioning
effect which will give you more muscle gain/less fat gain in the
long run.

And to the first poster, ALA prevents oxidative damage, which
is one of the reasons why MDMA is neuro-toxic(it increases
free-redical production dramatically). That is why ALA works
in this case, It is the best free-radical scavenger out there
since it is both fat and watwer soluble.

So Fonz, what kinda milligramage should we all be takin'? I just got some Jarrows ALA. And I should take the full daily dosage with my post workout meal?
