What is Bridging cycles?

What is bridging cycles? I see reference to it on these boards frequently. Yet I'm not sure what it is. Sounds like a transition from one cycle to the next. Yet using different substances, there by activating different receptors. Maybe some of the vets on this board can shed a little light on this topic.
