Torn Ligaments

I twisted my ankle almost 3 months ago. It's been bothering me for a while. I went to the podiatrist two weeks ago and got a MRI done. When I went back, he said that I had some small torn ligaments. He gave me a foot brace to wear when I'm gonna have to do a lot of walking so that my foot doesn't move up & down. It restricts the motion like pushing the gas pedal. He said that if it didn't heal on its own in 2-3 weeks then I'd have to have surgurey to reconstruct it. My question is have any of yall had this done, and how many have used a cortozon shot as an alternative. I am ready for it to stop hurting so I can get back to doing cardio & legs asap.
