Heads Up! Beware of John Crisler!

He's this guy who's getting some attention in the field of HRT therapy, and it is my opinion that he is certifiably insane.

A lot of those "male clinics" are really just sketchy doctors (usually dentists or dermalologists) who can write scripts and write as many as possible to make the most money as possible. I've heard this guy Crisler give, not only stupid and irresponsible advice, but downright dangerous. He's also a pathological egomaniac who actually makes threats against fellow contemporaries who disagree with him. (Which is pretty much anyone reputable in the industry).

So if you have any questions regarding HRT, you'd be better off checking in with one of the experts here and then going to a real doctor -- not one of those "male clinic guys" and certainly not John Crisler. Pass it along.

can you be more specific as to what he is doing/saying?

It's not one thing specifically. (Unless you want to count the opinions of his patients and other reputable doctors in the field). It's more for the fact that I've dealt with him personally and have come to the conclusion that not only is he "guessing" half of the time but he may actually be clinically paranoid. And this is someone who is considered an "expert" in the field. I feel sorry for anyone who buys into his nonsense.

It's not uncommon in this industry. Realize, HRT is something out of the knowledge base of most doctors, so a few veer off and specialize in it. The problem is, that doesn't mean they know what they're doing. Hormonal enhancement and therapy is still in a somewhat "theoretical" stage. But some theories are better than others. And some are just stupid.

As one of my friends, who is a doctor, has once said to me - these days your health is only your responsibility, especially with all the information available now. So listen to the doctors, but do your own research as well.

well i can share stories of doctors.. these are true things doctors have told me over the years and why i have built a cynical feeling towards them

1. those sinus meds don't work huh? we are going to have to cut your head off
2. you have a bump on your stomach, looks serious, how is your insurance?
3. you got muscular from amino acids
4. supplements are bad for your kidney's (this was a pain specialist btw who hands out opiates like candy)
5. you should believe in god, he will help you get better
6. if you cannot afford medical care, just don't pay your bill\
7. what is primo? Oh I see it is an anabolic steroid, and you have a script for it. (no such thing exists)
8. I treat my medical practice like a business, it isn't about helping people

Care to tell us a bit more about your personal dealings.

Eh, I hate to get into the back and forth nonsense, but here's one example.

Right of the bat, I knew some people that went to him and got messed up. But we've both been interviewed about the subject of HRT by Jay Cambell and he and I had very differing opinions -- which is fine. But as I'm listening to him he's making less and less sense and actually in error -- which is fine. I subtlely tried to correct the direction of the conversation with some contrary evidence and the guy snapped -- accusing me of deceiving the public. He just couldn't stand the fact that someone without a medical degree could know more than he.

He went on to suggest that anyone who gives advice on steroid use on message boards is practicing medicine without a license and should be fined and arrested. That's when the paranoia really started to show.

But he didn't stop. He ranted how he knew more about HRT than anyone else and anyone who didn't listen exclusively to him was an idiot!

I don't mind a different of opinion. And I can let the stupid personal stuff go. But when someone is flat out dangerously wrong AND so full of himself that he'd endanger the health of others just to have his way -- well that's a special kind of asshole. And he's the last person our endeavor needs . There are enough self appointed gurus -- someone with a medical degree can fool a lot of people into thinking he's actually qualified is especially dangerous.

Not too much back and forth but I, for one, would love to see an item on ''the good, the bad and the downright ugly (you can use that as a title on me ha ha) of TRT doctors''.

Now, given you earlier comment about his over done waiver and how he kicked off in the interview it makes more sense that patients beware. What was the field he qualified in - is he just an MD??

So a quick look doesn't show much except (Doctor of Osteopathy) to suggest he's trained others due to being 'a leading expert'. Hmm.
