Hormones do help burn fat either directly or indirectly. At the very least, they'll help you make better use of the food you eat. Diet is key though.

exactly. Steroids increase metabolic activity, but if you eat more calories than your maintenance, you'll gain wieght, some of which will inevitably be fat.
