Some basic terminology and understanding for two of the most commonly mentioned words on these boards:
Androgens-A class of sex hormones associated with the developement and maintenance of the secondary male characteristics,sperm induction,and sexual differentiation(between male and female species).In addition to increasing virility and libido,these hormones also increase nitrogen and water-retention and stimulate skeletal and skeletal muscle growth.
Androgen Receptors(A/R's)-Proteins,generally found in the cytoplasm of the muscle cell that specifically bind androgens and mediate(control) their cellular actions.The combination of the androgen molecule and its receptor bind together and form a single complex which will permeate(penetrate) the nucleus of the muscle cell,where it then induces transcription of specific segments of DNA(sends out genetic signals that influence biosynthesis of proteins,slowing of amino acid exportation,etc.)
