Boy, and I thought sticking a needle in my butt was bad! I'm not sure about the effects of DMSO on the mucosa of the rectum (doesn't sound like yours appreciated it too much though). The potential benefit might be avoidance of GI destruction of the drug. Unfortunately both the stomach, intestines and the rectum are served by the same venous system, so whether you eat it or absorb it throught the rectum it's going to the liver on the first pass will be degraded there. You would have to snort it or smoke it (NOT RECOMMENDED) to avoid a first pass through the liver.
