Hi Rob: Been awhile. I guess I won't ask how you've been....
I am an e.m.t. and you were fortunate (I'm presuming since
no test results have confirmed anything) that you were able
to walk away from that one. I think you put a bit too
much pressure on in the inter-cranial area and blew a few
blood vessels in the process. Painfull but not really a
problem.
One fellow at the gym 5 years ago was repping on bench when he
screamed out in pain. He couldn't get up and just kept telling
the paramedics he didn't want to die. They said he wouldn't.
He did. He got a brain aneurism. Some people are born with a
weak artery running across the brain and it can rupture causing
what I just mentioned. Obviously, a weak spot like that would
be the first place to blow when tremendous pressure is put on
esp. from doing heavy weights.
(Which by the way you deserve a congrats for getting 17 reps out
at 450!!)
Hopefully, your m.r.i. will show you if you have any such weak
areas to worry about but I doubt it as you would have had some
evidence from previous brutal workouts.
You might have to go a bit easier for awhile if there's any
blood still pooled but they'll tell you this when they give
you your results.
I'm sure you got a good scare but thank the big guy upstairs
you'll be back at the gym for a few more good sessions in no
time flat.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery!!
