: Explain to me the difference between regular packages and first class (besides delivery time). What makes you think that customs needs a warrant to open first class packages and not all the rest. That seems rediculous to me. Customs has the right to open ANY package regardless of the requested delivery time. If you are correct, it sounds damn easy to go into the drug smuggling business then. A kilo of dope, no prob, just use first class mail..?? I don't think so.
Postal regulations state that first class mail is personal correspondence. I have attached the URL so you can see for yourself.
The key to the whole issues is FIRST CLASS MAIL. I don't make the regulations, I am only quoting them. If they have probable cause, like a drug dog hits on a package, it's warrant time. No probable cause and it is the good old fourth amendment on you side. Next non-believer please.
