I'm new to this whole bodybuilding deal, and trust me, it's about time I got off my lazy ass and lifted something other than books. I'm 16 and female (obviously). I've been pretty active all my life until about a year ago when school started heating up, yadda yadda, you guys know the deal. Quit going for basketball practice as often as before, only did Taekwondo about once a week... so now, with a few tons of excess baggage, The New Chick gets off her butt and gets a membership to the Y. Oh yeah sound the cannons. She has no fuckin clue as to what to do now. If anyone could set me up with a good routine for beginners, I'd be forever grateful.

Thanks.||24.113.31.233||reg|| Z||000001||WarLobo||02-02-2001||12:20 AM||warlobo@operamail.com||Welcome to the Women's board! Never to late to start... or to eary! 16 huh? Well, many a good program out there. Be sure to read the up and use the search feature.

Set goals for yourself but start with small ones. That way, you won't get frustrated and give up as easily. Ask questions when you don't know.....heck, ask them when you do know....you might still learn something. Also, do a search on this subject. You'll find a ton of stuff here! Good luck to you!

My take is that if you've been athletic, then you pretty much know the score. What you will hear here is that weight resistance training is superior to cardio if you're looking for long-term weight loss and lean body mass preservation. What is typically introduced in a beginning weight routine is a combination of both (ie, more reps at moderate weight ... like 3 sets of 12 - 15 reps on basic exercises to get your body started). You need a routine that captures all of the muscle groups, and you'll have to define how much time you have to spend in the gym. If you have only 3 days per week, then you'll need to combine muscle groups in such a fashion as to fit into 3 days. I think that any beginner routine is sufficient for the first 8 +/- weeks. Talk to the folks at the Y and get started on their introductory program. As you're doing that, it is important for you to start reading, interacting on this board, and begin building your next routine based upon your goals.

Diet is a big deal here, and a big part of your success. Tell us about what you're doing: ask questions: etc.

Probably not a cut-and-dried as you were hoping for....

My advice is FIRST AND FOREMOST, go slowly. We don't want you burning out because you get injured, too sore to move or just plain worn out. I also think you should have a trainer at the Y draw up a program and diet for you based on your fitness goals, then bring that program to us here on the board. Give us the same info the Y trainer has (your short, medium and long-term goals, your height, weight, %bodyfat, current diet and fitness level, how much time you want to devote to your program, etc....) and let us see if we can improve on the trainers program (or give it the thumbs-up). ||210.54.162.51||reg||
