A||||11||riptchick||Gotta get some......|||||| Z||000000||riptchick||01-24-2001||02:46 PM||riptchick@operamail.com||SLEEP. I think my caffeine intake has been way too high as I cannot get any sleep. Or something. I just started cutting back on the carbs and calories and I am having a hard time sleeping. I have been waking up a couple times in the middle of the night too, starving I might add. Is melantonin good for this? Anyone have any suggestions? Nightime is the worst for me as far as cheating goes too. Supplements, herbal elixirs, teas? (willpower?)||24.247.50.194||reg|| Z||000001||The Ranger||01-24-2001||02:55 PM||abnrgr1@hushmail.com||Melatonin is great, I get the GNC 1mg cherry flav. tabs...melts in your mouth....I have the same problem, waking up starving....I usually have pre mixed protein shakes on hand to help curb this...

I'm glad to hear that i'm not alone with the lack of will power at night!I've heard the melatonin (sp?) is good and i've also heard of something called valerin root is also good. I'm heading out the the nutrition store now to get something. 3 hours sleep is not cutting it for this mom! I'll let you know tonight what i get and how much they say to take. (the lady who owns the nutrition shop by me is great for info like this!)||24.191.60.25||reg|| Z||000003||JayeLynn||01-24-2001||03:59 PM||greyvulf@hotmail.com||recommmended downers to counteract uppers....

Valarian root has worked very nicely for me in a gelatin capsule form. I've recently tried Melatonin- just 600-900mcg gives me a nice deep sleep. Chamomile tea is good for gentle relaxation in the eve's.

And hey, cutting down on that caffine doesn't hurt anything either! :P

I switched to Lite (reduced caffeine) months ago. I limit myself to 3 cups of that. I find myself dragging by gym time though. When I work up enough energy to hit the gym 8-9 pm when I finally get homework, laundry, house cleaning, dishes etc done. Bang out a killer workout then go to lay down to go to sleep...My mind is still full speed ahead on what I need to do tomorrow etc, worrying about crap. If I don't drink the coffee in the AM I would NEVER make it to 5:00. (at least I don't think I could). I am going to look into the valerian root and melantonin. Then again, now that I am dieting....I'M HUNGRY!

JL,... uppers with downers...I was already thinking that right after I hit submit reply. Leave it to you to pick up on it. I think my problem is more a relaxation one. ||24.247.50.194||reg|| Z||000006||abflex37||01-25-2001||12:39 AM||abflex37@yahoo.com||You may want to try an appetite supresent, drug name is phentermine, sold as Fastin or generically as Adipex-P. It completely elminates your taste for food and hunger pangs, yet allows you to sleep well at night.

As for relaxation play some nice smoothing music at bedtime. Pleseant dreams!||204.134.117.88||reg|| Z||000007||Haas||01-25-2001||02:48 AM||||No GHB? Try tylenol PM. Still awake?

I play hockey in co-ed and women's leagues. The beauty of the business is that there is such a demand for 'ice time' that rinks literally operate until midnight. That means that I could be playing hockey well past my bedtime and then trying to force myself to sleep when I'm the most wired. Too, you have to remember that your metabolism is elevated following a rigorous workout as well.
Believe me, I understand the situation with the caffeine. Even though I know without a doubt that my game is superior with played on ECA, you won't catch me taking any before a game on a 'school night'. I don't think that 3 cups of coffee is a lot: what else are you taking that contains caffeine? What are you eating for your post-workout meal?
I'm really leary of using pills as a first crack. You develop a dependancy and before you know it you have this ridiculous complex of buffers, counterbalanced, masking agents whose sides are more undesireable than the original problem. If you absolutely must workout between 8-9p, then try reading a good book (I'm not talking one of your text books here) in bed to settle your mindset. What about incorporating foods high in triptophan for that last meal: 4-6 oz turkey, 1/2c LF cottage cheese, and a big green salad...and some carbs of course.
We can't change your busy schedule, but we can help you become more at peace with it. Yes, help you relax; and with that comes better performance in everything else.

I don't drink soda ever so I don't get any extra caffeine there but.....you know what....sometimes my protein drinks are chocolate so that could be the problem right there. I have been trying to eat only fibrous carbs after 5:00 and I think maybe that could be it too. I might just need more carbs to make it through the workout and to fill me up but not enough to get me wired. I am going to screw around with the diet a little and add a cup of valerian root tea perhaps and a good bedtime story should do the trick. zzzzzzzzzzzzz drool drool. ||24.247.50.194||reg|| Z||000010||JayeLynn||01-30-2001||05:04 PM||greyvulf@hotmail.com||okay ript - needing an update here! What have you tried? what's working/not working?

I've had a rotten virus of some sort for the past week. Maybe all that lack of sleep made my resistence low! Just today started to feel a bit better. I've eleminated coffee altogether and 86'd the death by chocolate protein shakes. So far so good and Jaye, thanks for asking.....||24.247.50.194||reg||
