He thinks I may have halted in progress because of only using my small universal gym and maybe my body has adapted. Anyway, has anyone changed form home gym to the real world? just curious on results if you have changed.
The main reason I didn't join before is because of money, membership fees are 67.00 and I'm on a budget. I'm gonna talk it over with fiancee and maybe we can budget extra so I can try the gym in town.
You know what? I need a change of scenery I think.||206.40.101.73||reg|| Z||000001||riptchick||07-19-2000||04:45 PM||riptchick@operamail.com||I've never been able to work out at home and I don't think I would want to. I LOVE GOING TO THE GYM. It's a nice change of pace from the kids, dishes, dogs, laundry, etc. You'd think I was going there to relax! There's a variety of equipment and lots more motivation there. That gym membership is high huh? 67.00 is that per month or just the initial fee? Is there any hole in the wall hardcore gyms around you that are cheaper?

But I do tend to work a tad bit harder when I know someone may be watching. I like to impress now and then, heck even show off a bit. Yes it is a ego thing, but used in a good way, an ego is a very powerful tool that does have it's place.

Then at home I can crank up the tunes, cuss,
yell, spit, and be down right "uncivilized"
and wear next to nothing. It does save some time at home cause during the peak gym hours it gets packed.

p.s. think of it this way, how much would you spend on just ONE night out on the town drinking and parting?

We are not dirt poor or anything, I just want you to know that, but since I had a bancruptcy in 98, I really needed to get a grip on spending.
Anyway I'm joining the gym because my honey and I discussed it and he thinks the 67.00 is well worth it as it will help me achieve what I need. thanks

Its my personal haven away from work, boyfriend, stresses of life...||207.86.230.71||reg|| Z||000007||skydancer||07-19-2000||06:44 PM||skydancer43@hotmail.com||Geez Rach - we must be long lost sisters...i've held off on joining the gym too for the same reason..and mines 1/2 the price of yours! I was going to wait until I finished this 12wk training cycle but dang I want to go now....that does it...I'm going to join with you. (At my local gym of course)

You may find some are cheaper than the $67 but also consider how much time it will take you driving there, too. If you work 10 hrs. a day, then driving to one close to home might be worth the extra $ rather than spending an hour driving across town. Yes, I work out at a "hard core" gym and like it 100x better than the ritzy, spa-type clubs. I think you have a tendency to talk to others more & give/exchange advice from time to time, whereas at home (if you work out alone) there's no one there to push you that extra bit. We all need that extra bit of encouragement from time to time.

But when we moved in together we decided that it would be more cost effective to get a home gym, bought a flat-bench, pull-down, seated row combo-thingie and some accessories (extension/curl and preacher) combined it with some of the stuff my hubby had from when he was a kid and VIOLA! - pretty descent home gym. When we ran out of stuff or it just got stale - we would consult Bill Pearl's Keys To The Inner Universe and got a kick out of trying "new" stuff and refreshed our memories about "old" stuff. This kept us going for several years. When we were finished having children we unanimously decided that we had suffered enough and we BOTH DESERVED a gym membership - now we each have a membership to two gyms and I also train at a third on occasion (which incidentally is the only gym I REALLY want a membership to BUT THEY DON'T HAVE CHILDCARE!)

Get a membership, but check out all the area gyms - all of them give trials (just about all anyway). It will be one of the best things that you can do for yourself!

When we had our home gym, while it was OK we never really made any gains (sometimes lack of motivation, sometimes lack of variety). But I'm glad we did it because we were at least able to maintain SOMETHING. But it does not begin to compare to the gym.||24.4.252.72||reg|| Z||000010||dirtyratt||07-20-2000||10:46 AM||twodirtyrats@hotmail.com||do you have a college or university around you? if so, what you can do is (if you want to save $) get a alum. association card (by joining the alum. association,) pay to get a alum. ID card, then take it to the rec or the gym (whatever they call it) and pay what they ask- usually only around 15.00 a month. no other fees, signing stuff, nada. our university has all of the same workout stuff as say golds or bally's but is a lot cheaper. the only draw back is when it is busy, although it is huge.
check it out. go into the schools rec and ask for a tour. if you like what you see join. (if you don't mind young men looking at you while you workout )

just my suggestion. it really does save a lot. personal trainers and all come with it usually. dirtyratt||63.208.203.204||reg||
