A||||17||blackhaus1||OK heres a weird question...|||||| Z||000000||blackhaus1||07-07-2000||03:19 PM||kab0924@hushmail.com||Ok, I have always been a very very skinny girl...I am 5'8 110lbs...i can't gain weight for anything!! It doesn't matter what or when I eat, it won't happen. Some of you may be ready to kill me right now for complaining about this, but its not all its cracked up to be.
This may be odd, but as skinny as I am, I still can't see my abs!!!! And in order to do that, I need to lose the last littl ebit of fat there, w/o looking anorexic anywhere else (legs, arms). Can anyone come up with a diet to HELP ME???????????

In order to see your muscles you have to HAVE muscle, right? Why is it that people who want to see their biceps are quick to work them out heavy and constantly but those who want to see their abs think that just by being skinny or working them light with high reps (sit ups) that you will see them. This is true if you are ethiopian skinny (chill!..not a racist remark so don't start that bullshit). If you want abs you need to train them HARD..not often or with high reps but hard. This means with weights or some sort of weight resistance that will allow you to do NO more than 10-12 reps per set. There are some good machines that will do this for you. Try that for a month or two instead of doing 500 sit ups and see how it goes.||204.255.124.5||reg|| Z||000002||JayeLynn||07-07-2000||03:24 PM||greyvulf@hotmail.com||Until you tell me "what and when you eat", I refuse to believe that it doesn't matter.

Abs are visible when your body fat percentage is low enough to show the muscle.

Everyone has abs. Most people just have a layer of fat covering them.

As for not gaining weight no matter how hard you try: you can't defy physiques. If you consume more calories than you burn, you WILL gain weight. Simple as that.

I've always had descent abs from gymnastics but recently I've added heavy rope crunches and hanging leg raises (real slow and methodical like). Just started training them like any other body part--with weight--and already much better results!||205.188.200.157||reg|| Z||000007||blackhaus1||07-07-2000||10:36 PM||kab0924@hushmail.com||Ok, lets see...I am not ethiopian skinny, that would be gross and i wouldn't leave my house until I gained weight.
On a typical day, I eat either eggs for breakfast, or sometimes a bagel (whole wheat). For lunch, usually a hamburger, steak, or grilled chicken. Dinner is usually the same as lunch (throw a turkey sandwich in here and there). I also eat veggies here and there (broccoli, string beans, carrots) and salad here and there as well. When I do eat salad, its usually with chicken on top. I tend not to snack between meals all that much.
I don't do sit ups all that often. I tend to do the ab machine at the gym ( i don't know what its called...it just says abdominal on it) where you put your chest on the pad and pull the pad down to your knees(does anyone know what I am talking about) and the oblique machine. I am doing around 40 minutes of cardio 5 days a week. I also do crunchies, the bicycle crunchies (elbow to opposite knees), side crunches (obliques), and hanging knee raises. Am i overtraining???
Just so you guys know, this isn't the only mission in my training, I want to look like BIKINIMOM! (you're welcome!)...I don't wanna be a fraile little thing anymore, I want muscles. I am gonna have my bodyfat done next week so I can be more specific with you guys, but there really isn't any pinchable fat on me. Now...any pointers??
Oh yeah...and I have always eaten high protein b/c I am hypoglycemic(low blood sugar)...

Try keeping a food diary (I know, it sounds like a pain, but you get used to it) and you will be surprised, when you write things down as opposed to guessing, suddenly you see in black and white where you are going wrong.

Also, you do way too much cardio for someone who wants to GAIN weight. In the off season I cut my cardio down to 1 - 2 times a week, never more than 45 min (if I take a kick-boxing class otherwise 20 - 30 min).

And as for the makeup of your diet I don't have any knowledge of hypoglycemia. I'm sure that there are plenty here who can help though!||24.4.252.72||reg|| Z||000012||Iron God||07-08-2000||11:24 AM||irongod@hushmail.com||Abbs are overated anyway!

Also, do you know what your BMR is? Do you know how many calories you eat a day? If you knew that, you could easily plan out 6 balanced meals that would help you meat your calorie requirements. If you do not tell your body when to eat, it will only eat when IT feels it to be necessary. That's why so many people find it difficult to gain or lose weight - simply because they don't realize they have to take control of their eating.

Sit ups and crunches and leg lifts and all that won't make your abs show anymore than they are. They will, however, help stabalize your mid section (very important for other exercises).

The only thing that is going to help you remove the excess fat on your body is a properly balanced diet.

||129.80.22.140||reg|| Z||000015||Austin316||07-11-2000||12:37 AM||pesmerga316@cs.com||Theres a great ab machine at my gym that uses plates. It is called "The super crunch 1000" It really blasts the whole stomach. Your legs lock in and your arms hold onto something, aww heck I don't know how to explain it. It always hurts the next day and I've put 75 more lbs of plates onto it since I started it 3 months ago.||205.188.192.186||reg|| Z||000016||FitnessChick||07-11-2000||08:40 AM||fitnesschick@hushmail.com||We need specifics...what are you eating, & how often are you eating.....how many cals a day, how much ratios of carb-protein, etc.....if you are eating everything you may be skinny, but you may have high bf....abs dont show till bf is down.||209.236.135.29||reg|| Z||000017||Dlady27||07-11-2000||08:57 AM||||Big Pappa ~ Are you stating then that it is better to use the Nautilus machines that work the Obliques, and upper abs , the machines that you can actually adjust the weights on? I want to know this because I have been doing, leg lifts, crunches, knee lifts, and a couple other ones for the past 3 months and haven't seen too much of a change in my stomach area. So what does work the best?
I can tell you I have lost much of my ass though from everything else. ||208.205.113.135||reg|| Z||000018||Caesar||07-11-2000||10:32 AM||||Dlady, your question has already been answered a couple of times.

Abs will not show until body fat % is low enough to show them. What exercises you do has nothing to do with it.
