Okay...figured that topic would attract attention...BUT its true..I have ben incapable of getting a tan EVER...if I go to the salon, I could be in there for 5 minutes..I get red sunburn streaks on my body. I don't have a bodybuilding competition, but I think I am so white that I look sickly...I'm outside training and riding the bike for hours on end, but my skin stays as pale as a piece of paper. Any suggestions? I dont want to be dark, thats not in my complexion, I just want to look like one of the living.

Dark Angel...experiment with sunless lotions and sprays...I like coppertone myself. They are a pain in my opinion and many of them stink but they do work. You have to apply them carefully. And apply them two or so days BEFORE you are baring your skin. You will be surprised and spots you may have "missed" or not blended in enough.

When you go in the tanning bed, do you put on SPF? Thats what I do...and start with 10m or 5m or something with the SPF on. It really helps.

Welcome to the board btw.

I'm not a promoter of sun or tanning bed, however, sometimes it does seem a necessary evil - I never seen a BB win a comp looking white as a ghost.

I do not have a fair complexion, but one bad experience on a tanning bed - I swear to God that thing robbed me of at least ten years!

Having said this I have found a tanning salon that I ALWAYS use for competition and photos. I highly recommend a tanning bed called the "sunsport 2000" or something along those lines. You lay on it for 20 minutes at a clip and you will never burn because of the types of rays emitted (not saying you won't prematurely age your skin or that you won't get skin cancer) and you will get the deepest, darkest, longest lasting tan EVER!

Call local salons and ask about it.

I think I'll check out that bed..Im serious tho, I am outside all day in a bathing suit or riding clothes...and i swear I have NO color...must be my genes, but its been like this for my whole life. Everytime I have tanned in a bed, I burned very badly...but it was never one of those beds. And yes, I do use SPF when I tan, I just pretty much gave up on the bed.
I have heard that there are new stand up beds with the lights surrounding you...anyone ever try those?

I have tried the stand up units...The max amount of time you can spend in one is 10m.. They just help for thoes who are pressed for time and thoes people who don't move around alot in the beds.. because it gets rid of the lines down the side of your body.. If your really want color your best bet is sunless tanning spray. Just make sure to really exfoliate your body to get all the dead skin off or you will get color spots.

DarkAngel...with a name like that you're sheet white??? I don't wanna depress you here, but I have this terminally white problem, too. I have tried everything and every bed they have - VHR, Super-VHR, stand-up, which is just another VHR bed so you can get under the arms and the sides of your torso. I can't remember all the different names, but my latest quest was at a place with brand new equipment, really expensive beds. I tried them all - they screen this, they screen that, UVA, UVB, whatever!!! I still had to tan every other day and probably could have done it every day if I wanted to. They tell you only 1x week is necessary. Maybe for most, but not me. I did this for 3 months and still only got a mild base tan. I have to use several coats of tanning product to get a tan that will stand up to bright lights. I have concluded that I just don't have enough melanin to produce a golden brown tan. The one positive thing I can say is if you use the high quality beds as opposed to the standard, you won't burn. I don't use the x-ray machines year round, tho, cuz of the premature skin aging and the dangers we all know about, so I gotta be white most of the time.

Taking tyrosine helps me considerably. I am a very white boy (of German, Irish descent, grew up in PA) but with tyrosine supplementation I am able to tolerate a lot more sun and tan a little darker. My tan lasts a little longer as well. This has made a huge difference living in FL.

I am assuming you all know of the drug for psoriasis (sp?) that will make you very tan. I forget the name and have never been able to find any, but some people still claim to be using it.

THERE IS A BIG DIFFERENCE IN SUNBEDS AND TANNING RESULTS.
STANDARD BEDS COME WITH 24 LAMPS.
BEDS WITH MORE LAMPS WILL HAVE MORE TANNING POWER.
FOR EXAMPLE THE ATLANTIS 205 HAS 45 POWERFUL 160 WATT REFLECTOR LAMPS THAT DELIVER 11,000 WATTS OF TANNING ENERGY.
WHAT DOES IT MEAN???
366% MORE TANNING POWER THAN THE STANDARD 24 LAMP BED.

THE STAND UP BEDS ALSO HAVE MORE TANNING POWER BECAUSE THEY USE MORE LAMPS.

ABOUT TANNING-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
TANNING OCCURS GRADUALLY THROUGH THE STIMULATION AND OXIDATION OF MELANIN IN THE SKIN DURING EXPOSURE TO ULTRAVIOLET RAYS.
UVB(SHORTER ULTRAVIOLET RAYS) TRIGGER MELANIN PRODUCTION DEEP IN THE SKIN.
WHEN THESE ACTIVATE MELANIN GRANULES TRAVEL TO THE SURFACE, UVA(LONGER ULTRAVIOLET RAYS) CAUSE THE MELANIN TO OXIDIXE AND TURN BROWN.
TOO MUCH UVB CAUSES SUNBURN.

SUNBEDS LIMIT THE AMT. OF UVB(BURNING RAYS)AND USE MORE UVA TO HELP PRODUCE A MORE EVEN TAN.

TANNING LOTIONS ARE A MUST!!!!
LOTIONS WITH ADVANCED ANTIOXIDANT VITAMIN THERAPY ALONG WITH PREMIUM MOISTURIZERS WILL PRODUCE DARKER TANS WHILE PROTECTING THE SKIN.

THE RESULTS-------------------------------------------------------------------------------DARK LONG -LASTING,GOLDEN TANS AND NOURISHED SKIN (WITH PROTECTION FROM FREE RADICAL CELL DAMAGE WHICH MAY RESULT IN FINE LINES AND WRINKLES) FOR A MORE HEALTHY LOOKING APPEARANCE EVERYONE WILL NOTICE.

ANYONE LOOKING FOR COMMERCIAL SUNBEDS I'AM YOUR MAN.
PRICES START AT $4,799---$29,999.
STAND UP BOOTHS ARE PRICED AT $8,999---$12,699.
I SELL WOLFF SYSTEMS,SUNQUEST,SUNVISION,SUNSTAR,SOLARIS SPEED 175 SYSTEMS ALONG WITH A FEW OTHERS.

OH! I LISTED THE PRICES IN CANADIAN DOLLARS SO THE AMERICAN PRICES WILL BE SOME WHAT LOWER.
HAPPY TANNING!!!

Self Tanner- Try Australian Gold Self Bronzer...comes in a gold metal bottle. Makes a great natural tan color. And doesn't smell quite as bad as the other ones I've tried. Use it a night after a shower, rub in good. Wake up and BAM Instant tan

TRY USING BOTH NATURAL SUNSHINE AND TANNING BEDS FOR BEST RESULTS.
WHEN YOU DO NOT HAVE TIME TO LAY OUT THE USE OF A TANNING BED WILL DO NICELY.

DarkAngel, You might really want to look into prescription melanin enhancers such as Trisoralen (available brand name in USA and as a generic in mexico) also Meladinina is a ver similar product sold in Mexico as a pill and as a cream. Mela is like $5 for 30 pills.
