Every new diet drug that comes out is supposedly the next big thing.\u00a0 However, two new drugs, Pramlintide and Lorcaserin have the potential to shake up the dieting industry, and help people drop more pounds than ever before.\u00a0 And the best part is that they\u2019ll work on burning fat without you having to lift a finger!<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"PramlintideLifting, eating, and bulking are some of the best things about bodybuilding.\u00a0 Watching my muscles grow and being able to eat massive amounts of calories are the main reasons why I love bodybuilding so much.\u00a0 But for every up, there\u2019s a down.\u00a0 And that down for me in bodybuilding is cutting.<\/p>\n

I mean who actually likes to cut their calories while turning up the cardio?\u00a0 Sure it\u2019s great to see the end results of cutting calories and doing more cardio, but it is hell getting there.\u00a0 That is why I like to monitor what\u2019s going on in the diet industry so I can see if any useful drugs will be coming out.\u00a0 Yes, that\u2019s right... I\u2019m one of those lazy guys who would rather burn fat through diet drugs rather than doing an extra hour of cardio in the gym.<\/p>\n

And while I\u2019ve been watching the diet industry, I recently saw where there are some new drugs which can cause massive weight loss in people.\u00a0 Weight loss expert Dr. Ken Fujoka stated this fact when he said, \u201cWith these new medications, now we're getting what we call double digit weight loss... 10 percent and up.\u201d\u00a0 Fujoka continued by saying, \u201cSo now you're losing 20, 30, and 40 pounds of weight with these new weight loss medications, which really makes the doctor and the patient a lot happier.\u201d<\/p>\n

One of the new drugs that is allowing people to see these double digit losses in weight is made by a company called Amylin Pharmaceuticals, Inc.\u00a0 Their injectable drug Pramlintide is a synthetic analog of human amylin, a hormone known to play a role in the regulation of appetite and food intake. And it has proven to curb people\u2019s appetites in clinical trials.\u00a0 By using pramlintide, people can resist their urges and start cutting major weight through their decreased appetite.\u00a0 The CEO of Amylin, Daniel Bradbury, explained the drug\u2019s effects by saying, \u201cThese are molecules, which actually act like a naturally occurring molecule (leptin).\u00a0 This is a molecule your fat cells produce to control your body weight.\u201d<\/p>\n

In addition to the promising drug pramlintide by Amylin, Arena Pharmaceuticals is also putting their company back in the news with the development of Lorcaserin.\u00a0 Lorcaserin is a traditional weight loss pill that is in the final stages of FDA trials, and is producing the aforementioned double digit weight loss results.<\/p>\n

Dr. Dominic Behan gave a clear picture of how Lorcaserin works by explaining, \u201cAs a species we tend to preserve body fat and you need some way to short circuit that process, and Lorcaserin does that by modulating brain systems that can prevent food intake. So it decreases your appetite, so you take in less food.\u201d<\/p>\n

As mentioned before, the results of both Lorcaserin and Amylin\u2019s drug are incredible with people in trials losing up to 10% of their body weight.\u00a0 But aside from making people look better, Daniel Bradbury pointed out that the aim of these drugs goes beyond mere cosmetic purposes.\u00a0 Bradbury said that these drugs are huge in reducing blood pressure, lowering cholesterol, and improving overall health status.<\/p>\n

Personally, I care most about the looking better aspect, but I\u2019d definitely take improved health along with the dramatic weight loss results offered by these drugs.\u00a0 All I know is that I\u2019m excited to see these drugs hit the market \u2013 especially Lorcaserin since it is almost through the FDA trials!<\/p>\n
