Is it Constitutional for U.S. Customs to make seizures without notification?

Old 16-Jan-2004, 05:14 PM   #1
I understand why Customs can do certain things, such as seize packages coming into the country when they have cause to do so. However, is it Constitutional for them to seize property without notifying either sender or receiver? This has happened quite often recently among people I know, including myself. It has not been a problem in the past, but things seem to be getting worse in terms of our personal rights being tossed into the garbage... Any other opinions on this?

Well if your importing illegal substances they DO have the constitutional right to process you in court.

Thus, if they find your and don't tell you about it, I wouldn't complain.

as of late, the constitution has less and less meaning, and there is nothing we can do about it

I'm not sure how much right to be notified you have when you're smuggling drugs into the country. Maybe it's better they don't.

Interesting question for the legal forum, maybe you should post it there.

Ya ,.... I have also heard of them not sending anything so that you think that your source ripped you off and eventually cause you to stop using overseas sources from thinking that you have been scammed. That is what a Eurosource told me.

Interesting point, I would agree. Usually it is not the source that rips you off, rather they just take it and get rid of it I assume.

Try posting this in the "Law" forum. You'll probably get decent feedback.
