Husserl was such a genius no? Yes, the isolated mind is a myth... I love your study. I think interviewing some Body Builders to learn how identity is shaped by the 'embodiment' and how that does alter the sense of 'self' is fascinating. PsychoAnalysis is making a come back though. Fascinating Stuff... Please, Please Tat keep me up to date. I'm beyond intrigued. Right now I"m doing grunt work for a PHD doing research for reforming education based on a new understanding of Mind and Self.
I'm hoping that my continued efforts get me a back page acknowledgement...

The dualism is killing us. It will contiue too, as long as the predominant form of ummm... I'll call it 'technological knowledge' is the Dominant one. The subject/object knowledge, is how it operates. We need other 'tools,' it's a limited form of knowledge... How can U live if all you have is a hammer? Doesn't make sense. I think though there are indications of change all around us... I just don't know if as a species we have 'time'.

    Ooooh... Great question...
    Gimme like 20 minutes...
Just got home... It's different though today, then it was 20 years ago... and we are on an S curve of change. What I mean is even the nature of change is speeding up, so the predictions of even 5 years ago aren't gonna hold weight because, their estimation on the rate of change was static, that time was static, however both are speeding up. Gimme a little time, great question. The quick answer is psychoanalysis, and phenomenology is making a huge comeback in the theory of the self...
all the new studies in this postmodern society, have moved to examining not so much the self as a static object, however the self as a process or activity based on interpretation. My point is the belief is worthless... It is the Activity that a Belief is Formed that Has Value. This is the Secret of the Self...
The Activity... Knowledge as Capacity... not as Content. Our Objective Knowledge has us becoming Object oriented, and less Dynamic, However, I think this Outcome Based type of Knowledge is Evolving to understand that the Process or Activity has been overshadowed and Obfuscated.

    Hi Ariel,

I am cramming for a psychology essay. Quick question to help me pad it out.

How do you think that the phenomenological and psychoanalytic perspectives of self have transcended the individual-society, agency-structure dualism?

I'm reading a fascinating Social Psych Research Study done on Flirting, its evolutionary psych role, and a current study of how it operates in North Britain. I will hoist up some interesting bits once I digest it.
    Have a wonderful 09.

U really ripped it up in my thread. I believe strongly in genetics and neuroscience, howeer, the scientific/technoliical model we use for knowledge based on symbolic mathematical logic of cause and effect only work on the physical level or when orders of experience are on the same level.

So much was left out, as U pointed out an integral approach is needed to understand a question that involves many different 'levels' .

However, I think we are coming to a point where dualistic type knowledge that is based on our current system that reduces perception, interpretation to 'subjective' and therefore meaningless, and promotes truth, which is really not really true, but more based on fundamental agreement or consensus of perception, anyway by this logic since meaning is no longer considered a matter that this 'knolwedge' can investigate or publicly discuss, what is meaningless, comes to the fore front by default.

My point is that yes cause and effect are true on the physical, to a certain degree cognitive level, however finding ways to moderate oxytocin and vasopressin may in the short term promote intimacy on the surface level, but in my opinion, while I love neuroscience and am pwned by technology, this form of understanding of knowledge as content instead of capacity... or how to live one' life in harmony is a more encompassing form of knowledge that in accord with 'technological' knowledge would promote a decrease in the increasing isolation that happens during our times.

Sorry for the Rant TAT, I was just impressed with the dynamic of U showing such a beautiful blend of open minded thinking in combination with your analytical nature. Great Stuff.

Seriously, the sig is flat out awesome.
U were always deep, but now Your physical progress represent to me an
    embodiment of intelligence/beauty/and strength...
Redefining feminine in an awesome way.
Again, I know this is strong, but like Nin, my friend U are pioneering and helping redefine cultural definitions through expanding how one can blend grace/ and strength beautifully. Props for that alone. Major Props.
I just wanna call U Athena and leave it at that.
U need your own comic book now.
    LOL

Each friend represents a world in us, a world possibly not born until they arrive, and it is only by this meeting that a new world is born.
