Designer medicines of the future
I've heard that in the next decade they will unveil some interesting new medicines labled "designer drugs".
--an implant bead that secretes perfumes and can last up to 3 months. --skin pigmentation/ hair color medicines. --An anti-obesity pill designed to target leptin differences in overweight people (3-5 years release date). --Personality altering medicines (we already have a few, but the strongest stuff is on the way apparently) I don't know if any of this is absolutely true except that I recently heard this from a medical researcher at a recent seminar. I've forgotten some of the others he mentioned but I'll post if I can remember. Doesn't perfectly fit into life extension, but rather life-enhancement perhaps. |

Dreams
Researchers have been making empty promises for decades. They sell dreams to procure funding. Think of all the money that is dumped each year into cancer research. Do you think that they actually want to discover a simple inexpensive cure for it? I doubt it. That would put a big sector of the economy 'out of business'. Medicine has nothing to do with curing the sick on a permanent basis. They just want to keep them alive long enough to suck every last cent of personal savings and insurance out of them. It's an animal thing called survival. In humans it's been supplanted with 'financial survival'.
All living things eventually fulfill their functional purpose and expend their energy resources. Feral animals usually do it with a little bit of dignity. They go off into the woods, lay down, and die. Humans hang on, not always of their own choice, in the hopes that some miracle will occur to extend their existence. It's a pathetic thing to watch someone you care about waste away until they look like someone out of a WWII Concentration Camp. I say, Jack Kevorkian for Surgeon General. He'll solve this problem in no time. |

There will definitely be drugs like this in the future - not sure of the time-frame though.
There is a lot of money spent on research for this sort of thing, and it does pay off eventually. Imagine how much money the first company who brings out an anti-fat pill will make! That's an incentive for any pharmaceutical company. |

There is a new hard on pill coming out this next year or so, it's like viagra but without the side effects of blood pressure trouble and the blue vision issues of viagra, it's said to be like a viagra on steroids, new anti cancer drugs that are taken orally with very low sides are coming out soon as well. So it's takes time, this is heavy science and like all good science it takes time and lots of money to make it possible.

I'm excited to see what happens with the leptin drug as well. I'll be sure to relay what company comes out with it if anyone cares when the times comes...that might be stock that hits the roof. Right now, it's under tight wraps.

Leptin
There's more to it than just the Leptin. But if the FDA and the Pharmaceuticals follow course they'll market it anyway. Doesn't matter whether or not it is effective.
[B]Proposed/Cal Res/CNPT Hypothalmic-Pituitary-Adrenal Axis/Hepatic Rats To understand the role pancreatic polypeptide, corticosterone, transcortin, CRF, leptin, insulin, eicosanoids and lipocortins play in mediating the effects of caloric restriction in rats.[B/] |

True enough, booger. It would be essentially worthless if it requires endocrine modification to such an extent. Too risky if it were to likely compromise physiological function or involve too many systems. Could be another phen-fen fiasco.

just think what has come out in the last 5 yrs? something that gives u a hard on if ur already half way there and something that kinda, sorta if the conditions r right, may sometimes help , a bit, with thinning hair, in some cases. and thats it!!!!!
almost every drug we use has been in por use for the last 50 most even longer. the pill that makes u look and feel 20 when ur 60, is about as far off as good government. |
