Empty Stomach?

I know it's best to do cardio in the morning on an empty stomach. Does the same apply for lifting?

I usually lift in the evenings, roughly an hour after a protein shake. But on Saturdays or Sundays I'll get in fairly early, 9-10am or so. Usually having eaten some kind of breakfast.

This last Saturday I got in to do legs early without eating anything (didn't plan it, just worked out that way). Couldn't lift for shit! Felt tired and out of gas. Any thoughts?

No - I recommend against it even if you are trying to lose fat. It just isnt necessary. You will feel like shit - and to me I need a good workout regardless of whether Im bulking or cutting.

Advantages to lifting in the morning
1) You start out with a fresh mind= more concentration.
2) You will find less of an excuse to skip the workout.

If you are like me and dont have a problem with the above two then i say SCREW morning lifting. Youve tried and have found it is not for you , apparently.
