As the first of many of my young friends fall victim to the almighty poon.

what do I need to know / what are my responsibilities? besides banging the bride-to-be's niece, I mean.

I don't get engagement parties. With the showers and the actual wedding a couple gets more than one could begin to fathom. One more party seems excessive.

Bring a card.

kb, bring something you would like- even a gift certificate to a department store or really nice towels or something fun- a dvd player and some movies (depending on how well you know them).

That seems like too much. Just do something small. Give them a bottle of wine or something. Seriously it's sick and wrong how much a couple gets for getting married. It gets to the point where you're tired of getting stuff. There's no more room to put everything. There are too many boxes. Endless thank you notes. Ick.

You want my advice?

Give them the gift that counts, something that's actually useful. Something they might benifit from later on down the line. Get them a get-a-divorce-certificate-free card. They'll thank you later

3) baptisms
4) wakes/funerals

it means your grown up.
