Why did modern medicine come up with so many different testosterone drugs?

I realize there are different esters mixed with synthetic testosterone to create different half lives etc. However, why did the pharmaceutical industry continue coming up with different compounds? Why have anadrol, stanolozol, deca, equipoise, etc? What were they shooting for when there were already synthetic test drugs in production?

The reason there are so many different types of AAS is due to the scientist trying to create the perfect hormone. They alter the test molecule in order to reduce sides that test will cause. The problem is that by reducing sides, they also reduce androgenic activity and anabolic activity.

personally i think its a combination of the two:

Because why would you buy test from one pharmacy when you get the exact same product with another pharmacy, but by altering the molecule the new company can say our product is better. Thus the end result (be it deca, a-bomb...) benefits the user (theoretically) since the sides are less but the thing that drives the new company to make that new AAS is the money.

Mak was right they played with esters to make different drugs to reduce sides and treat diseases like anemia, muscle wasting etc.
Modern?
Most of the esters were made in the 1950's-1970's.
not much after that in the 1980's and beyond.
It's a shame because of the stigma of AAS and lack of patents, AAS research was at an all time low.
It was revived a bit in the early 1990's for AIDS patients..but in America generic dball was removed from the market in 1985, anavar in 1988, Anadrol in 1993..both Anavar and Anadrol were brought back in the early 1990's at rediculous prices for AIDS patients.
It's truely sad because we have the technology and delivery systems to really make feel good drugs and anti-aging with AAS esters that could improve overall health and etc.
Making no need for anti-depressants fat blockers dick drugs etc etc. but the social stigma and etc will keep the pharm companies. Also to truely treat muscle wasting diseases and improve quality of life injuries etc.
It sucks becaise this is 2005 and we have the ability to administer and mimick hormones like DHEA, IGF-1, GH test, estrogen etc all in optimal anti-aging amounts reversing the process and repairing these broken down out of shape unhealthy people and to prevent it and we don't.

Great post.

Well, I guess you could make the same arguement about blood pressure medications, or allergy meds, or cars, or computers. It's all about free market capitalism.

as an important note---the about a dozen or so pharmaceutical and veterinary steroids are the tiniest fraction of the synthesized steroids which number in the TENS of THOUSANDS.
